How to Download MP3 Videos

ipod MP3 is an audio file format that was designed by the Moving Picture Experts Group as part of its MPEG-1 standard and later extended in MPEG-2 standard. Note that MP3 is not a video format. Understand that downloading videos into MP3 means that you are extracting only the audio part of the video and saving it into MP3 format. The VLC Media Player from Videolan.org, is a free media player, encoder and streamer that can read files, CDs, DVDs, network streams, capture cards and convert them into various supported media formats. We will use this player to download a You Tube video into MP3.

How to extract the audio from a YouTube video into MP3 format

Step 1

Launch your VLC Media Player on your computer.

Step 2

Under Media (the first item on the menu), select the sub-menu item, "Convert / Save". This will open a pop up window.

Step 3

Select the "Network" tab. It's the third one from the left. This will prompt you for a network URL.

Step 4

Enter the URL for a You Tube video of your choosing. Then press the "Convert / Save" button at the bottom of the screen. This will open a pop up window.

Step 5

In the Destination area, enter the destination file name where you want to save the MP3 output. Then check the "Display the output" box.

Step 6

In the Settings area, select "Audio - MP3" for the profile. Then press the "Start" button at the bottom of the window.

Step 7

The VLC Media player will play the MP3 after the download process finishes.
